James L. Murrett, MAI, SRA
James L. Murrett, MAI, SRA, of Hamburg, New York, is the 2018 president of the Appraisal Institute. He will serve as immediate past president in 2019. He serves this year as chair of the organization’s Executive Committee and chairs its policy-setting Board of Directors.
Murrett has served on the Appraisal Institute’s national Board of Directors and Strategic Planning Committee and as chair of the Finance Committee, in addition to many chapter roles, including as president of the Upstate New York Chapter. He also has been treasurer and a member of the Board of Directors of the International Center for Valuation Certification, an affiliate of the Appraisal Institute.
He received the 2014 Appraisal Institute Edward W. Adams, SRA, Outstanding Board Service Award and the 2008 President’s Award, which is presented by the Upstate New York Chapter of the Appraisal Institute for ongoing commitment, dedication and service to the chapter and the profession.
Murrett received a bachelor’s degree in business management from Walsh University, in Canton, Ohio.
Since 2009, he has been in management roles with Colliers International Valuation & Advisory Services, currently as the executive managing director, Compliance & Quality Assurance,where he is responsible for the general oversight of appraisal quality for Colliers.
Stephen S. Wagner, MAI, SRA, AI-GRS
Stephen S. Wagner, MAI, SRA, AI-GRS, of West Lafayette, Indiana, is the 2018 president-elect of the Appraisal Institute. He will serve as president in 2019 and immediate past president in 2020. He also will serve on the organization’s Executive Committee and on its policy-setting Board of Directors.
Wagner served as Appraisal Institute vice president in 2017. His one-year term as president-elect will be followed by one year each as president in 2019 and immediate past president in 2020. He also will continue to serve on the Appraisal Institute’s Executive Committee and on its policy-setting Board of Directors for the next three years.
Wagner has served on the Appraisal Institute Board of Directors and as vice chair of the Professional Standards and Guidance Committee. He is a past chair of the Demonstration Report Writing Panel, has served on the Admissions Designations and Qualifications Committee and has been involved in the development of the General Review courses and two Capstone case studies. He also teaches general qualifying education and advanced-level courses and seminars for the Appraisal Institute.
A graduate of Purdue University, he has been a chief appraiser for a regional bank and currently is a senior appraiser in the appraisal firm of Terzo & Bologna, Inc. in Indianapolis.
Jefferson L. Sherman, MAI, AI-GRS
Jefferson L. Sherman, MAI, AI-GRS, of Highland Heights, Ohio, is the 2018 vice president of the Appraisal Institute. He will serve as president-elect in 2019, president in 2020 and immediate past president in 2021. He also will serve on the organization’s Executive Committee and on its policy-setting Board of Directors.
Sherman has been a real estate professional for 44 years, including as a broker in Colorado and then in Michigan. His practice concentrates on the eminent domain field with emphasis on litigation review. His firm,Sherman-Andrzejczyk Group, Inc., is comprised of six people, including his son. During his years as a Realtor, he twice served as president of the Battle Creek (Michigan) Board of Realtors and was named Realtor of the Year in 1982.
Sherman also has served twice as an Appraisal Institute chapter president in Ohio and has worked on two successful chapter merger teams. He has served nationally on the Board of Directors (2000-02), Finance Committee (vice chair, 2002), Nominating Committee (2002), Education Committee (2010-13) and International Relations Committee (2016). He currently serves on the Strategic Planning Committee. He has served nearly continuously on the Region V committee since 1993, including many years as its parliamentarian.
He has taught courses for the Appraisal Institute since 1992 in 10 states and in Saudi Arabia. He also has served on two course development teams and was chief reviewer for the apartment appraisal course.
Jim Amorin, MAI, SRA, AI-GRS
Chief Executive Officer
Jim Amorin, MAI, SRA, AI-GRS, of Austin, Texas, is the chief executive officer of the Appraisal Institute. He served as acting CEO from August 2017 through August 2018. He serves on the organization’s Executive Committee and on its policy-setting Board of Directors.
He was the 2009 and 2017 Appraisal Institute president, and has served twice each as the organization’s president-elect, vice president and immediate past president. He also has chaired or served on the Appraisal Institute’s Executive Committee, National Nominating Committee, Finance Committee, Audit Committee, Strategic Planning Committee, General Appraiser Council Admissions Committee, Qualifying Education Committee and the AI Relief Foundation Board of Directors, in addition to region and chapter roles
He received the Appraisal Institute President’s Award in 2012 for work related to the Capstone program as well as work on several project teams. In 2013 he was awarded the Appraisal Institute Education Trust’s Y.T and Louise Lee Lum Award.
Amorin is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin with degrees in finance and real estate & urban land development.
